Free Video Footage...FREE

Where can i find royalty free video footage....for free? I've been replacing my hair with knives for the past few hours trying, searching up and down the internet for all types of words. I can understand people who filmed it, sell it, need rights etc...but $299 a piece... what they smoking?

Yea, the royalty free footage available is very expensive. They should take the "free" out and just call it "royalty footage". Because you must be royalty to afford it.

It's difficult to find "free" footage because "pay" sites use "free" in their titles. Like this one. freestockfootage.com - They don't have any free footage! But it is cheap.

There are some places that have free footage but it all depends on what you need (nature, people, etc.). If you need motion backgrounds there are a few sites that provide free samples. If you want free explosions or gun shots (with green screens) then this is a good site. http://www.detonationfilms.com/free_stuff.htm

Good luck.

Your best bet may be to barter with someone.
I've traded footage in exchange for scoring some of my work in the past.

Why is $299 to much? You pay the price once and you can use it for whatever you want forever without paying any additional fees? How much would it cost you to get the same footage if you even could?

I don't think they're smoking anything, I think they're trying to recoup their costs and make a living.

It's all about supply and demand. If you can find the same footage at a micro-stock house then they're not going to be selling many clips at $299 and will have to adjust or die. However, if you can't find it anywhere else then you either pay what they're asking or do without.
