all the files I was finding on there are 320x240... am I missing something?

Yeah. Try some of the Mpeg2 files. The ones marked MP4 and editable are really small, but some of the Mpeg2 files are pretty nice (and some aren't). Depending on your NLE, you may need to render them out as Quicktime or AVI before editing. Vegas handles the MPeg2 files directly off of Archive.org quite well.
