Free Sound Effects???

You guys have a ton of great answers so I hope you can help.

I need some free, usable and downloadable sound effects.

I'm looking for stuff in the trendy vein of contemporary hollywood trailers. Slashes, wooshes, zips...you know the stuff. The stuff we usually see directly on a cut, push or when titles whip in.

I've been brought on to do some cheezy corporate type stuff for some small business videos and the clients seem to love this stuff. I need more.

Any tips on web sites that may have something worth listening to?

Thanks,

rook

Back in college, I looked all over the web for free sounds, but couldn't find anything useful. I went to the local library (this was in Chicago), and they had sound fx libraries there on CD. You may want to check that out.

Hollywood Edge gives away a demo CD (or at least they used to) which had a quite comprehensive set of about 100 sound effects, for free...

You might just check out www.sounddogs.com. They have downloadable sound effects for reasonable prices. I just picked up a couple and it cost me $6. They work great in a pinch and you can re-download them at any time if you need them in the future and have lost them, computer crashes, your on someone else's system and so on. And you can preview thousands of effects and download the best one for your needs.

THANKS GUYS.

Yeah, I have bought a few sound EFX libraries in the past but they can be expensive and I'm just not bringing in the paper on these gigs to warrant the buy.

Thanks for the Tips they have been helpful.

sound libraries

I bought a few CD sound libraries in a supermarket... and I want to burn, the sounds are ****...

I recently picked up the Sonic Foundry 1001 Sound Effects CD (it was no more than $15, but can't remember the exact amount) and I love it. But now Matt has peaked my interest on the Sony library. Matt, how much did you pay for it?
