Free Scriptwriting Program!?!?

I'm sure this has been discussed but the search link was acting up. Any suggestions? I just got Celtx but haven't got to try it yet.

movie magic screenwriter is pretty awesome for the educational price of $89. but if you insist on free, download the demo. It's full featured except when you print, theres an obnoxious water mark. And if you ever decide to buy it, all of the projects you worked on are printable without the watermark.

Thanks to all. I've tried Celtx and it is surprisingly a great program. Very easy to use and has a lot of cool features.

The only thing I miss about Celtx is you can't set the elements of the screenplay to automatically go where you want when hitting the enter or tab key...(like in Final Draft)

Hopefully I'm wrong about that, but my version doesn't seem to have the ability to change those settings.

By elements I mean, Scene, Action, Character, Dialogue and Transition.

Otherwise, it seems to work great and even cooler is it's free and you can collaborate and share easily with others who aren't technically screenwriters who've invested in a dedicated screenwriting program.

And I like that scheduling feature!

I own final draft and am not using it any more. why? I am always using different computers to write. all the serial numbers and activation codes etc make this a royal pain in the Arse.

Cinergy is actually suprising usefull for a free program. And its not a word template, it is its own program. It does pretty much everything my final draft 6 does.

where do you get it? link?

The best screenwriting software is sophcles.net It's not free, but you can go download their trial. They have a beta version which is even better. It even has a budgeting program built into it.

Here's a template to put into word that has an upgradeable feature for 10 british pounds. I'm in the US and have used the freeware for some short scripts and what not. I'm not sure if it has the "juice" to carry a feature film, but if you at least want to get used to the script format its not too shabby.

Since I'm not a professional screenwriter, I just use the demo of Final Draft and take screetshots into microsoft word before I print to avoid watermarks.

Works for me, since I'm not selling my screenplays.

Celtx is the bomb! I also own final draft and haven't touched it since finding Celtx. I especially dig the organization features in it! My buddy and I have co-writen a short film with it and will be shooting in September. www.thebreakdownfilm.com

Have you found any way to disable it trying to phone home every minute or so?

I love Celtx, but:

I'm on dialup and can't get into a creative space when the whole world is there to be viewed on the internet...so I write off-line, but Celtx tries to dial up every minute or two. (and why is that, I'm wondering?)

I use Final Draft usually, but its incompatabilty with japanese fonts killed me so currently I use ms word with an inbuilt template.

I need to write the script once done send of for translation, I then need to copy and paste translated version into original matching the scenes. Otherwise its impossible for me to shoot.
