Free scripts

In the vein of all the free writing posts lately, I decided I'd put up a bunch of my old screenplays.

These are screenplays I have no personal interest in making, nor am I particularly interested in trying to sell them. If you like one, take it, make it, rewrite it, and if you like a concept but would like a revision or perhaps another script altogether, contact me and we can work something out. My one request is that if you use my script, credit me, and contact me if you're looking for music for it, too - I may have something that fits. If I like it, I reserve the right to upload it or parts of it to my website for part of my reel. If you decide to rewrite some or a good chunk of it, I still take top credit for writing. Everything else is fair game.

I'm not promising these are good. They are all shorts of varying length and genre, written as I've been teaching myself the craft. You may find something that works for you, you may not, but feel free to have at them.

A Small Misunderstanding: Comedy. Aliens land on a mini golf course and try to make sense of Earth's tiny, white spherical inhabitants. http://www.jlboyce.com/scripts/JLBoyce-A_Small_Misunderstanding.RTF

Across the Void: Drama, Thriller. A vacationing writer loses much more than just his focus when he discovers the ghostly occupant of his mountain cabin. http://www.jlboyce.com/scripts/JLBoyce-Across_the_Void.RTF

Clyde Vs The Hero: Comedy. When the neighborhood superhero cockblocks Clyde and steals his woman, he won't take it lying down. http://www.jlboyce.com/scripts/JLBoyce-Clyde_Vs_The_Hero.RTF

Daddy's Little Girl: Horror, Thriller. When his wife turns up dead, Arthur can't seem to figure out what did her in. His daughter has the answer. http://www.jlboyce.com/scripts/JLBoyce-Daddys_Little_Girl.RTF

Empty: Drama. An elderly wounded war vet loses his faithful, loving wife, and discovers there is no redemption after death. http://www.jlboyce.com/scripts/JLBoyce-Empty.RTF

Knives: Comedy, Action. A loving couple works to find effective ways to off each other. http://www.jlboyce.com/scripts/JLBoyce-Knives.RTF

Storyteller: Comedy. A man outfitted with the gift of gab manages to save the day by recounting the time he slept with Madonna. http://www.jlboyce.com/scripts/JLBoyce-Storyteller.RTF

The Bum: Comedy. Surrealist comedy based on a continued, collective thought shared by the homeless. http://www.jlboyce.com/scripts/JLBoyce-The_Bum.RTF

Tuesday Morning: Drama. Two long-time work friends become the first victims of 9/11. http://www.jlboyce.com/scripts/JLBoyce-Tuesday_Morning.RTF

Weekend of the Living Dead: Comedy. Two loving parents take their zombie son on to a talk show on a campaign to save his un-life. http://www.jlboyce.com/scripts/JLBoyce-Weekend_of_the_Living_Dead.RTF

Thanks for reading, and if anyone feels like sharing feedback, I would appreciate it. I don't plan on working on these anymore, but if a good enough idea comes up, it may breathe new life into an old screenplay.

If I weren't a writer already, I'd be going nuts over this post right now.

It's interesting as to how much better a writer you are than (m)any of the (self-titled) "professionals" on this site....

Very interesting scripts. Over the next two weeks, I'll be reading them all.

mrWrOng,

That is very generous of you to offer these scripts. I will be tied up most of today and all day tomorrow, but then I will definately check these out. I am a slow writer compared to most, and sometimes wish I had some other options at hand before starting the next writing phase, even though I do love to write.

Just from reading the loglines, "A Small Misunderstanding" and "Knives" sound the most enticing to me.

Now guys, there's no need to fight. I don't want this to turn into a big thing. The mission is to help everybody make more films. If we were Spielberg, Scorcese and Lucas sitting around chewingthe fat and ripping each other's screenplays up, that's all well and good, but we're unfortunately a bunch of nobodies who should all be working together to get to where we want to be.

Here's to hoping someone is able to get somewhere w/ regards to their dream and what they want to do.

Mr. Wrong is correct. If feathers are so easily ruffled now, how will it be when some of us get to Hollywood and the real pummeling begins?

Here are a couple more:

Electronic Goodbye: Drama. Finalist for this year's One Page screenplay contest. A monologue about a young man who misses his father. Would be ridiculously easy to shoot, but pay attention to the subtleties: http://www.jlboyce.com/scripts/JLBoyce-Electronic_Goodbye.RTF

Broken: Drama. A young crack addict is found by his father and forced back into the broken home he had escaped from. He is the catalyst needed to trigger the family meltdown that's been waiting to happen: http://www.jlboyce.com/scripts/JLBoyce-Broken.pdf

I'm going to be writing some short screenplays over winter inbetween some features, so more will be coming, and feel free to share ideas. I've got a few myself, but we'll see where they go.

Did someone edit a post, cuz I don't see any ruffled feathers? Jason, I'll try and read through some of these and post feedback. Are they in any sort of order - like oldest to newest?

Some posts have been edited, which is nice.

I don't have any particular order on the posts, but I have a faint idea of the order in which I wrote them:

The Bum, Tuesday Morning, A Small Misunderstanding, Storyteller, Daddy's Little Girl, Clyde Vs the Hero, Across the Void, Weekend of the Living Dead, Empty, Knives, Broken, Electronic Goodbye

It's a rough estimate. Broken and Electronic Goodbye were written this year, Knives was written last year, and all three were written after I started staffing at a summer screenwriting camp. All the rest were written while I was still in college, after I took my first screenwriting class and before I took my second.

I have some storyboards kicking around for some of the older ones, if I have some time I can scan them up.

There is interest in a few, so if someone plans on making one of them, let me know and we can figure out if there's a conflict of interest.

I'm again not going to claim the greatness of these, but I think it's a worthwhile trade - my biggest interest is learning about the translation and interpretation from the script to the screen, what people see, what people don't and how they choose to go about it, so that I myself can learn to better understand how to say what I want to say and see how word choices come across.

If, for example, a particular theme doesn't come across or something just doesn't make sense, then I can figure out where I went wrong in setting up the story.

shameless bump to check in and show off new signature

a couple of these are in production, so i'm looking forward to getting them & posting them online when they're done

Great scripts, Mr.Wrong. Which ones are still available. Even thouggh I'm already a writer, i'd like to choose a few and try to adapt some into features. Thanks, man.

I want to read the one about the Crack Head... however, Not Found...
I'm digin the Electronic Goodbye...
am I allowed to shot this?

Sorry guys! It turned out that just before I left, I updated the nameservers on myw ebsite which pointed to an old version of the website & deleted the files or something. I'm fixing them now.
