Free Music

I'm working on a very low budget training video for a cliend, and the client insists that whoever did their last video used FREE music... I've always used production music that requires you to pay/liscence it, or at least buy-out music where you pay one time and there are no royolties beyond that initial cost...

Does anyone know of a web site or other source for 100% FREE music? It doesn't have to be anything amazing, just some basic tracks- like I said, this is an extremely low-budget project...

You can reply on this message board or email me directly at flyhigh013@yahoo.com

thanks everyone, I really appreciate the help!!!

-Ryan

not sure if this is 100% free, but sometimes freeplaymusic.com is great for certain things.

I also use freeplaymusic.

Sounds like they used buy-out music. Probably had some leftovers from a previous client.

Thanks for the help guys- I've used freeplaymusic a few times (free for student projects back when I was in school), and I've also licensed a few tracks from them for various freelance jobs... very good rates (IMO)

The job I'm doing now the client is insisting on 100% free, legal music. Not buyout, not licensed, doesn't cost a cent AND legal (those don't usually go hand in hand)...

I'm not sure if such a thing even exists...

archive.org's audio area has an 'open source music' section. You just have to be careful to check the license of each piece to be sure it fits with your production (many pieces have a non-commercial restriction).

not sure of the name of the website, but there are lots of sites and forums out there for homespun music producers so that they can get their "beats" heard. Most of them will allow you to use their song with only wanting credits. When I find the links I will let you know. but in the internet film "steal this film 2" it talks alot about this kind of stuff. http://www.stealthisfilm.com/Part2/download.php
I would suggest watching it, if nothing else skip to the credits and get the websites.

I have used http://www.soundclick.com for free music. You have to be carefull, its not ALL free.. What your are looking for is license music that allows for commercial use. Its out there, and there is a way once you sign up to at least view all the music in the commercial use accepted area..

Takes time though.. They also have some music that you can buy for like $1 per song and then use for comercial. Its a creative commons license.

Hope that helps - Jon
