free cs3 vs paid cs5. Help please.

Hey you guys. In my hands I have a free copy of cs3 to install, however, obviously it's an older version since the release of cs5. I'm wondering if i should install it or should I purchase cs5? How much difference is there between the two? I mean can cs3 hold on its own? or is it really worth it to get cs5?

theres also a slight chance I can install cs5 for free from a friend but so far it's looking unlikely and I only have today to install this copy of cs3.

I don't want to torrent cs5 just cuz i don't trust that sort of thing.

what do you think?

What I think is - you allude to "stealing" CS5, thats not what Id recommend.

Is the version of Cs3 you have a legitimate version? If so you maybe be able to purchase CS5 cheaper via the upgrade option.

As one who is sticking with CS3 until the burning need to upgrade my PC and therefore move to Win 7 is forced on me, what leaps and bounds does CS5 give you?
Besides the Mercury playback stuff.

Just about everything is improved. The MPE and the Ultra keyer are worth it alone. But then there's also the Media Browser, the tighter integration with the rest of the suite, improved OnLocation . . . it's a long list.

If it was just the $299 for the software it would be one thing...but to have to go to 64 bit Win and all the stuff that has to get upgraded at the same time along with a new PC as well...thats a bridge to far.
That's my long list! :)

I'm always surprised by people who talk so casually about stealing software. It's as if they think everyone does it, there's nothing wrong with it, and it's completely acceptable -- especially in an environment like this. Maybe they just don't realize that it's stealing. But how could they not? I just don't understand.
