Free clients giving me pain.

I mean, you can't do much as you have to finish the project for your diploma, correct? I'd just say stick it out and make sure things like this don't happen again. I mean, I'm not saying you don't do good work or anything, but the clients you get from this obviously don't value good filmmaking if they're getting it for free from a school.

First off I must make it clear that I have not had much industry experience. I worked for a few months at a production company that did commercials, corporate videos and market research videos.

Most of my work have been short films, event videoing and freebie videos for local people.

If you're doing something for free, people will take advantage of you and your time. Avoid doing it unless it will do good in the long-run in some way... in this case your diploma! So just stick it out, take the hits (kinda like Homer when he becomes a boxer) and soon it will be done and they should hopefully be very grateful for your work.

Also, you're probably a bit older than me, so I can say I have similar problems with being young/inexperienced. They realise you're a student, new to the industry and/or young, and will take advantage of this.

For me, I was often stuck doing market research videos or tedious freebie jobs. Only now am I getting more work and people are showing more respect for my time. I'm by no means a big shot in the industry, on the contrary, but I now have people insist on paying me for what would previously be freebie jobs.

Stick it out mate, you seem determined and goal-orientated, no doubt this will help you be successful. Real success takes time, much of it spent being somebody's slave.

Unfortunately, free or discount clients are the worst. Either do it and get over it, or cut them loose, because it won't get any easier. My most dreaded phrase is "Could you just...", like another 4 hours of my time means nothing. My response is "Sure, but I charge by the hour." They seem to like things better when they don't have to pay.
