Free Canon EOS + Letus Elite or M2 & Live Lens or SGBlade and buy lenses?

Douglas, I'm not shallow DoF obsessed, just shallower than video, and with that ""organic" look.
I'm sorry I wasn't answering your post. I was just agreeing with Huy that a lot of shooters I know like to shoot wide open all the time.
Nice stills!
80-200 f2.8 wide open?
What monitor do you use?
It must have been really tricky follow focusing down the runway!
Thanks.
I use a Panasonic 8". Cant remember the model and yes it was a pain in the neck. Literally the camera was at about 6" above my head and the monitor right in front of my face. The press photographer were all over me and making the stage that we were on bounce. NOT FUN.
It would have been a lot easier if they had one more f stop of light (double) to set the camera lens at f4 (sharper)
I guess I should have said I'm not doing narrative; more corporate, concert production.
I'm thinking, especially in a live situation like a concert, it could be tricky not only on EF aperture, but focus could be more difficult?
Can you use follow focus on EF?

But I guess what I'm looking for in an adaptor is:
low light loss
e2e sharpness
nice bokeh (but I can't say I'm bokeh obsessed... at least not yet!)
that organic look
It would be just as hard as this fashion show.

Just wait for the Panasonic GH1 coming out next month for $1,500 with a 14-140 mm lens included.

I don't believe the Redrock LiveLens system is even released yet. I think they're releasing it as an accessory add-on.

here's my hf-s100 and SGblade stopped down to f/8(maybe f11) on a FD 50mm 1.2L lens.

^ here's Hv20 plus Brevis, FD 50 f/1.4 wide open at 1.4

Grabbed from a stop down test I did a while ago here : http://www.vimeo.com/1110258

both different looks, no color correction.. by the way that HF-S100 sure does take some nice images.

Huy- thanks, I guess I should get in touch with RR, I thought LL was out and somebody on DVXuser would have experience with it.

astigmatic- nice grabs; warm look for no CC.
The 50mm's at f8 on the second still?
What's the iris on the camera?
You're right, the HF-S100 looks good with the Blade!
What FD lenses do you have and where'd you get them?
Are you happy with the Blade, any issues?
What's the fastest shutter or smallest aperture before you see the GG?

I'm starting to think FD may be the way to go, not bothering with those EFs, unless Red Rock can give me good news on the Live Lens....

thanks guys!

thanks, yeah the hf-s100's default daylight balance leans towards warm.

yeah, it's at f/8. I can't remember what the camera was at. I also had an nd filter in the mattebox.

I have bunch of lenses, my main are 28 f/2.0, 50 f/1.2L, 85 1.2L, 200 f/2.8 I got them either on ebay or KEH.com

the Blade is cool, my main issues are that i'ts not omptimized for small sensor cameras like the hfs, so I get vingetting on wide and telephoto lenses. Also, edge to edge sharpness and chromatic abberation is not as good as the brevis.

What's the fastest shutter or smallest aperture before you see the GG?

On the rotorazor1 I can stop down probably all the way. On the rotorazor 2 I can't stop down very far, maybe 2.8 without seeing the concentric patterns of the GG in some instances, like against sky or white walls.

Wow, surprisingly shallow DoF for f8!
Thanks for all the answers!
Which results in more questions, of course. LOL!

No backfocus issues with the blade?
No problems with lenses from ebay? From individuals?
Do you remember what the lenses cost, at least those you listed? (2 L series, NICE!)
What's the HF, a single CMOS?

Thanks again!

No backfocus isuues with the Blade, the thing I like about the blade is it's build and functionality. Easy to set up and adjust.

Most of the lenses I get from ebay are as described, maybe a couple were bad. The lens cost was around $600 for the 85mm L, $350 for the 50mm L, $80 for the 24mm, and about $150 for the 200m. If you don't go L a 50mm 1.4 is about $50 and probably almost as good. The normal 85mm f/1.8 is about $180-200 and probably just as good.

the HFS has a single cmos 1/2.6 sensor.

Douglas- I see the lights at the rear of the stage.
What lighting was there up front?

And did you follow focus on all the shots, or could you try having the models "walk into" focus on any shots (maybe a little riskier?).

I know runway shoots can be a pain; I've shot them on tripods on platforms full of jostling press, and on the shoulder kneeling at the corner or side, but never with an adaptor.
I would definitely call that, er... challenging!

But nice grabs!

Chuck

There were two more lights just like those at the end of the runway pointed to the back lights and two behind me pointing to the end of the runway about 30' away.
I didn't have any control over that except to to lell them my opinion where to point them to kind of feather them.
It was a hard place to light because it was inside a tent and you couldn't raise the lights enough to keep them out of people's eyes.

I did pull focus all the time if you want to call it that, but with a push-pull zoom lens you don't have markings or time to check markings.
The only reason I dare to use a 35mm adapter is because I wasn't hire to record the event. I was there to do a promo for next year's event.
I have the links here to most of the event (I haven't uploaded the social part that I did with a GlideCam). It is basically raw during the actual runway, but I did edit the Preparation clip.
