frantic tripod search

I have been parusing the site reading the tripod advice, but i gotta say, the most I can shell out at the moment (after having bought the camera and fcp and a mac) is like 300 bucks...any thoughts on what a poor student can do in the interim before he can get any more money? I am shooting a short i intend to send on to festivals and need to make it look as good as possible...any thoughts?

Re: frantic tripod search

Well, I don't know what the prices are in the states, and in dollars, but I'm assembling my own tripod for about £350 UK. I ordered the head (Gitzo 2380), legs (Manfrotto 525MVB) and levelling ball seperately and it worked out cheaper that way.

I got the head yesterday, it's not bad, and IMO better than the 501 because it's true fluid as far as I can tell. I've got the legs and ball on special order through my workplace. Another cheap solution would be a Velbon tripod+head kit, run a search for their website. I've no idea about the quality on the larger tripods, but my mini Velbon for my Super8mm cine-cam is pretty good for the money! ;D
