FrankenRig!

Pics of my rig for those wandering what the Letus35a Flip looks like mounted on a Redrock Micro rod system, finely focused with a Dan Diaconu follow focus with a precision made DD universal focus gear. A sexy beast in beautifully crafted duds. Bottom pic is Walter Graff inspired illumination of a spirit I have not inbibed in quite a while but looks so nice with light flowing thru its dark nector.

all that supported by the 501 plate, yikes. I would be afraid to tilt down...
I have a 516 on the way, but the 501 has been a trooper. It's like anything else make sure its secure, after all its a bogen...not a smith victor...then i'd be afraid.

I have the 501 myself and love it. There are nicer, but my last tripod was a Velbon, so it was like heaven.

Would like to see some footage, and get some coke for that CR :)

Sweet looking rig. But it also proves something to me that I'm not to happy with. I have a Cavision mattebox with rods, but I don't think that the rods will clear the large lens displacement by the letus 35 flip. It looks like you have the cavision camera support on there, attatched to the redrock base plate? Wow, that's quite a rig, I guess it makes it pretty tripod dependent huh.

Hey the image looks great.

I wouldn't worry about the 501, but if this is your final setup I'd get a rod system that's not all cobbled together. That's the scary part. CAVision is nice stuff & CHEAP !!

Good Luck on your film

LOL i'm scared of that CR its a couple years old and the last time I had any drink. I'm afraid of a beer. I should have some real world stuff by Wednesday, i've got a music vid to shoot, so i'll be putting everything through its paces.

No Cavision is plain cheap. I don't like their stuff at all but I bought it so I use it. Again everything is secure and that is the most important part no wobble and plenty of wow factor. I'm sure Quyen will come up with a rod system for the Letus similiar to that of the mini, until then...

Those are Cavision handgrips on there. Lots of people on this forum might argue that the Cavision support bracket system is indeed a well-crafted solution.

RedRock's rod system is incredibly heavy, but oddly takes very little puchase (¾") on the rods compared to the Cavision solution (3") which comes in at almost half the price.

Add a DOF converter, cinema glass and a matte box - adding three to five times the weight of your base camera body and stock lens? Not on ¾" with a half foot of cantilever - yikes.

Wow. Sweet. Hell of a set up  You would certainly get some attention with that bad boy! - Not run n' gun.

lol not run and gun at all. I've done some handheld with it and i'm in damn good shape, but afterward i feel like I need a couple of protein bars.

I don't follow you, what you describe as yikes is what you see and works well. I will never shoot without a DOF adapter again, so if I have to put on some pounds to pull from the camera what it should be able to do in the first place, so be it. My rig is not intended for shooting skate movies (that is not a knock) and portability is not really a concern. I've got a 516 head on the way that will be more than adequate to handle the weight, and even the 501 handles it just fine. I've had the Cavision for over two years and don't find it to be crafted nearly as well as its competitors, and I think i'll be going with a Vocas or a Petroff. I find the Cavision to always need adjustments even with the base body, and the vinetting on the DVX was simply unforgiveable (read Jarred's review).

Weight, cost, need.

I am a Steadi guy so light & stable are prime importance for me. I have ARRI sliding plates & Chrosziel stuff, but for less than $250 you can have a NEW Rod set and be a happy shooter. Everyone has the "Need the most expensive" attitude, but how many really own anything ? Someone once said my AMG55 was **** ... Go Figure ...
His DAD was a Bently. He has a VW.

CAVISION, darn good enough ... Just emailed Jason last week for prices & order info.

There's something familiar in that obscene set up...
I guess from now on... the sky is the limit (or should I rather say... the horizon?)
Post clips when you have them! You rock!

Whatever floats your boat, but i've owned the Cavision as i've said for two years. No matter how I tighten the screws and socket screws it moves on the DVX or the XL2. I own it so I use it. Why not sell it you ask? I don't want anyone on these boards I frequent pissed at me because they have to adjust the friggin thing all the time. You may want to check out my man Dan who also has a sweet ass rod set up designed for his sweet ass adapter and sweet ass follow focus. He also sells Carbon fiber rods. But I won't be buying anything else from Cavision without trying it out for 2-3 years. Besides I use my DVX on my steady set up, but who steady cams a whole movie anyway?
