Frank Miller's The Spirit

This is the first film he directed right?
Isn't movie like that a little too big for, technically, a begginer director?

Man, I couldn't get past the 6th paragraph of that review, it's terrible. He doesnt even get to talking about the film until he's over a thousand words into his unintelligible ramblings. Reminds me of a review I did back in 4th grade when half my words were expletives because I hadn't even begun to understand the English language yet.

This reviewer has become worse than the film he's reviewing. With that said, I'll reserve my judgment of The Spirit until I read a review from someone that can punctuate and at least mimic the rules of grammar.

that's how they do things over at AICN. they tell you their whole experience, it rarely works.

the trailers never got me, im not even going to see this one in the theater, and i should be interested in something so flashy. just seems like a stupid over the top fluff piece.

my only care is that hopefully this movie tanking doesnt affect sin city 2 negatively in any way. frank miller should have done something a little more original for his first effort.

i finally saw it because i really enjoyed the comic to some degree. It was the worst movie ever, i came in there expecting any of the stylistic approach on dialogue, action, and just the general plot line that sin city was. There were some funny parts and some cool parts, but the Main character did not carry the story at all, i didn't feel like i cared whether he lived or died. The best acting overall was samuel l. jackson, but he played the same character he does in every movie, "Pissed off black guy" (no offense). really see it for your self. It was ok. But i think he should have let Rodriguez or Tarentino helped out. It could have been so much better.

The second trailer for this looked pretty bad. The new one is better--

Over at AICN they are calling it the worst movie ever made, worse than Battlefield Earth--

Gotta agree, it's the worst. Sourly glad it was under 2 hours, the bladder effect would have been my excuse to not re-enter the theatre. When things get that bad you just have to make sure it doesn't get any better and miss it.

Ebert offered this tasty morsel.

"The Spirit" is mannered to the point of madness. There is not a trace of human emotion in it. To call the characters cardboard is to insult a useful packing material.

ZZzing!

FYI,

Stu Maschwitz served as the "senior visual effects producer" for the film.

Stu is the author of The DV Rebel's Guide (inspiring) and a "sticky" in the Cafe is dedicated to communications with him.

I personally already knew that, I am a fan of stu and his blog, but the effects is not what is wrong with this movie, its much more than that

The way I interpret your statement, it sounds as if you thought my post painted Stu in a negative light? On the contrary.
I was simply pointing out that for those who didn't know, that a member of our community played a role in the making of this film.

I certainly wasn't pointing my finger and saying the short-comings of the film were due to the effects.

If I mis-interpreted what you were saying, then "my bad".

I don't understand how anyone can watch the trailers for this and think it'll be anything but complete crap. When will the overly stylized, flash in the pan look die?

Neal, sorry if I came off as being negative, it was never the intention, stu is a great effects designer, and his book is one of the few that I read ofter, is just that the effects nor the best actors in the world could of saved this film from what I saw yesterday, great job by stu though, just my .0002 :)
