Framing

Can anyone give me a crash course in how to shoot my project so it can display decently in 4:3 and possibly 16:9? I am not counting on getting a theatrical release, but it would be nice if I had it at least set up for widescreen framing wise. I have a dvx, no ana adapter or no follow focus, and I have access to a 7 inch varizoom on camera monitor and a JVC T 150 Production Monitor.

Do I just frame for 4:3 with the dvx and the Varizoom, and switch the production monitor to 16:9 and leave it in underscan? Do I need to mask the screen with tape, or is that strectching it a bit?

And in situations where I only have the dvx and varizoom, do I just frame 4:3 with the dvx and 16:9 with the varizoom?

Anybody have any suggestions or screen grabs?

Thanks.

I mask with tape, rubber bands, or an acetate sheet - the beauty of the acetate is that you can write all over it if you want. Personally I would just shoot for 16:9 - let em letterbox it. But thats just me :)
