Framing with HV30

Hello everyone,

I am wondering how this is done via on camera lcd or a larger monitor. Soon I will be shooting a short with the HV30 and am wanting to make sure I don't cut anyone's heads off. Someone told me before to tape off the monitor for 16:9? But how do you do that...

Thanks!
Terry.

Only the most expensive field monitors have underscan (showing the whole image). And all of them are already 16:9 (including the HV30's LCD) so there's no taping involved. What overscan means is that the monitor crops off a few percents of the picture, so the camera is actually recording more than what you see, so you shouldn't have problem cropping people's head off.

Not necessarily. There are 4:3 monitors out there, although all the new ones are 16:9 now. And there are some consumer monitors that are 16:10.

I see. So stick with a 16:9 monitor. Since the HV30 is HDV should should the monitor also be HD or can it be SD?

Thanks!!

Yes, focusing is the whole point isn't it.. Budget is what drives my interest in SD. Ikan is selling 7" V7000 for $349 which I can do. The HD version, V8000HDMI is $800 :(

Would there be any disadvantages to buying an HD LCD TV? What would I have to look for in one of those?

thanks,
Terry.
