frames dropping like none other!

I'm playing back a short project I just finished.. All the meda resides on a fairly speedy 55GB partition with 13GB free. After I rendered the entire timeline, parts of it would play smoothly, then parts of it would stutter... The drive is not very fragmented... what gives? My system has been running well for over a year now it's doing this crap!

btw, I don't get dropped frames when capturing though(if that's any indicator)..

Thanks!

What's the other part of the partition, ie how big is the whole drive. Is physically the same as your system drive. You won't get full performance unless your drive is physically different from your system drive. 13 gigs isn't a lot of space either, that could be another problem.

Re: frames dropping like none other!

The drive in question here is not my system drive.

My other partition of the same physical drive has 44GB out of 56GB free. It is however, fairly fragmented.. I'm gonna defrag that partition and see how it goes. This drive is not my system drive. This still stumped me though, since playing back DV stream isn't all that labor intensive for modern day SATA drives... Even if its performance has somewhat degraded a bit, it should still keep up with 3.5MB/sec.

Re: frames dropping like none other!

Is your drive running in PIO mode for some reason? If so, set it to DMA mode (if you have an intel, installing intel application accelerator will fix this for you).

I had that problem when I printed to tape but I just make one lage file then print it to tape when I was rendering in sections I would get blips in the video and audio
