frames dropped???

I am new at the fcp workflow, but hope one/some of you could help me out. I am using the dvx100b. When logging and capturing, I hit capture now, everything is fine. Then, while capturing at any random moment the screen goes black and a pop up window says frames were dropped during capturing, or something like that. I hit ok and I have to start all over b/c I think it lost everything captured before the frames were dropped. What are some ways around it and/or other options. Anything would be great. Thanks

First, check which drive you are capturing to and make sure it's to your external drive (and I hope you are using an external firewire, not USB 2.0). Any half decent drive should not drop frame capturing DV. If you still get the error, in your user prefences, uncheck the box that says abort capture on dropped frames. A lot of times, FCP says you've dropped frames but the file is fine. Make sure after you capture that everything is still in sync and you should be okay.
