Frame rate frustration

Hello all. I found David's tutorial very helpful with regards to 24P pulldown and what not. However, I just tried to capture video using my JVC GR-DVL505 as a capture deck - and I can't seem to get the dang thing to work! I had everything set to what i wanted it - but it immediately sets all the clips at 29.97, lower field first etc. I'm gonna keep trying - I never had this kind of trouble when i used my DVX as a capture deck... Could it be the capture deck I'm using?

Thnx

There are some (very) low-end consumer camcorders which apparently can't send the pulldown flag metadata through with the stream. However, I do use a JVC consumer camcorder for capture in the field, and it works fine -- but it's not a low-end model (DVL920).

My question, though, is where are you looking at the clip properties? In Vegas or in the capture program?

I was looking at the clip properties. I have the preview window playing it at 23.97, but the clip properties are still 29.97 - and I have the project set at 24P. I used Vegas capture for capturing, I was not aware that the frame rate was even significant of the stage of capturing. (With the pulldown happening) I suppose it's just that I'm capturing with a low-end camera (Since I was having no difficulties capturing with the DVX) Hmmmm, I would prefer not to use my DVX as a capture deck...
Thanx David

There's at least one professional deck which apparently doesn't transmit the pulldown flags, either.

It's metadata, so some of the very cheapest camcorders don't see it or don't transmit it.

The set is small, though.
