frame rate conversion in FCP6

i use a sony dcr-vx2100 that shoots only 30 fps, i am trying to figure out a way in which to convert the 29.97 down to 23.98 fps either within the timeline itself or right before exporting.
i don't care how complex the process may be, i just want quality looking stuff!
and i'd like to avoid plugins, unless it's really good.

merely changing the frame rate in compressor or quicktime conversion has yielded less than stellar results.
in fact, the closest thing i've gotten to decent looking 24p was by downsizing my camera's shutter speed to 1/30.
i know you can achieve this in after effects so if anyone wants to direct me to a hot copy of that I'd appreciate it as well!!! haha.
any advice is welcome guys, thanks!

Well, x1186x, a lot of stuff going on there to try and get 24p. Might I humbly suggest an easier way - shoot with a 24p camera in the first place.

As for working with your footage. I would suggest Gramme Nattress's film / standards conversion plugins. They provide the easiest workflow for creating decent 24p out of 60i footage. If you want to try to do it with out purchasing Nattress' plugs: 1) create new timeline, 2) Command + 0, change sequence settings to DVCPRO 24p (anamorphic?), 3) edit footage to timeline, 4) de-interlace footage with FCP plugin, 5) Before exporting, you could try FCP's strobe filter to give the footage a more 'juddery' look, or you can just export.

You are right about the 1/30th shutter speed. Lowering the shutter speed allows more motion blur, mimicking a film camera running at 1/48 or lower.

Honestly, you will be much more happy with the results if you use a 24p camera to begin with.
