Frame grabs in vegas

Hello. When I grab stills from my DVX footage in vegas 5 the grabs come out blurry. As I scrub through the time line to select the frame I want, viewing the preview window (set to best full), every object that has motion looks blurry and every 4th frame has interlace lines which renders that frame useless for a grab. This is using the default NTSC DV 24p Widescreen (720x480, 23.976 fps) template. However when I switch to the NTSC DV Widescreen (720x480, 29.970 fps) template the motion problem goes away but the lines are still there every 4th frame. The original footage was shot in 24pa. Am I doing something wrong here? Thanks, mark

Re: Frame grabs in vegas

Do you by chance have Deinterlace Stills checked in the Options/Prefs tab? It shouldn't be deinterlacing if you're working in a progressive project, but this has come up in other forums from time to time.

Re: Frame grabs in vegas

I cannot find the deinterlace setting options. what tab should it be in? Should "allow pulldown when opening 24p DV" be checked off?

I'm voting with John, I'm betting that you have "allow pulldown removal" checked OFF, when you want it ON. Assuming that your footage was shot in 24P mode, and you're using Vegas 4.0b or later, and you're using one of the NTSC 24P project files, all should work well, you should never see interlace lines, and motion should be as smooth as 24P motion gets.

Thanks. That was the problem. I checked allow pulldown removal and the problem went away.
