Frame Blending / Motion Blur?

I shot some timelapse that is too "choppy". The man's movements are very staccato and jittery, so I need to apply some frame blending or motion blur, or both.

This is extremely easy to do in Premiere Pro. As the PHOTO ABOVE shows, all you need to do is right-click on your footage in the Premiere Pro timeline, choose "Frame Blending" and then change the duration of your clip. In this case, I have sped the footage up by 100%.

How can I (easily) add a similar "frame blending" technique to my After Effects compositions? I want to introduce motion blur similar to what you see in the Premiere screen grab above.

How do I do this in After Effects? I am a noob, so please explain things as if I know nothing about AE.

Thanks for the help.

You also need to enable frame blending:

1) Globally
2) For the layer in question

You can also access #2 by right clicking the layer => frame blending

When there is a dotted line for the layer switch, it will be set to frame blending. When "off" it will be set to frame duplication. When set to the solid line, it will use pixel motion (generates new frames), which takes longer to render, but should yield smoother results than dupes or blends.

Experiment with each mode to see which works for your purposes better

Motion blur is a different concept, but the switch is to the right of the frame blend switch, and also needs to be activated on the layer in question

I thought 'motion blur' was applied to objects that change position/rotation/whatever using After Effects keyframing, not 'blurring' the motion of objects in a captured clip.

Exactly. But the topic name was "frame blending / motion blur". From the info he provided, he probably doesn't want to use "motion blur". They are not the same thing - which is why I said it was a "different" concept. Sorry if this was unclear
