Fragile Firewire port ????

Hi everyone,
I am somewhat worried with reading about the firewire port "frying". Why is that, and what happens ?

I have a dvx100A and a Can-O-Pus ADVC 100 I use to adjust the blacks on the production monitor. In shooting my last feature I would plug in & pull out a live firewire cord about 20 times a day for 6 weeks, 6 days a week. Geez. I also use the camera to dig from. Am I bad ?

Should I be worried, I mean, is it really something that happens or is it like the hairy palms thing ?

Hmmm ...

Steve

We have four DVX-100 and one of them the firewire port is fried. None of my computers will read it.

I believe that I would make sure that the camera is off when you plug in the firewire cable. Mine has been in the shop over 2 months now (parts are on backorder) getting the firewire port repaired. I believe I'm going to purchase a firewire port isolator for mine.

Re: Fragile Firewire port ????

Hey, What is a firewire isolator? I could really use one. I do a ton of steadicam and pluging and unpluging 30 times a day. To power down the camera would be a big pain.

I have seen firswire isolators for PhaseOne digital camera backs. Is this the same beast ? This one has no need for power, another big plus.

Hmmmm....

Thanks for the reply,

Steve
