FR2 random problem

I have owned used FR2 for a year now. Sometimes recording doesn't run after I press record button. It seems like it gets worse in cold weather. It will run when I test it and then when it comes to the take it won't record hehe. Anyone experienced the same thing? Maybe latest firmware has some problem? The one I have has latest firmware could it be the card? I switched to some older cf cards and it happened to have same non responsive recording button. I think by switching pre rec switch on and off fixes the problem sometimes.
 
Have you tried resetting the defaults & then going back in & reconfiguring it the way you like it?

Probably not related to the specific card you were using, but I was having a problem with a bad file on a card which went away after resetting the defaults... worth a try, eh?
 
Nothing helps, It seems when problem comes up and when I finally get it to run by restarting the machine and switching pre rec switch on and off, time code goes off by about 10 seconds. Is there a way to rollback the firmware??
 
It could be just a dirty switch that needs looking at.

Did you buy it new or s/h?

Have you spoken to the local Fostex Service Centre about it?

The FR-2 is a nice machine and I had one for several years before I sold it to buy my Nagra VI - never had any trouble at all in the time I had it.
 
I bought it used and it is pretty beat up. I just thought maybe it was a commin thing with some freeware. I will try looking into dirty rec button. it might be that simple.
