I was wondering on what the general opinion on Four Brothers is. I personally think it's crap, I also figured everyone else was in agreement with me, until my film friend said one night that he couldnt wait to see it. I staired at him blankly, and with my jaw dropped, and I thought about it the next day.....does this movie have the possibility of being good?

let me know your opinion

No . . . it's not possible.

Marky Mark + lead role = Stink

Stink + hip-hop star trying to act = turd

turd + lame story = diarrhea

diarrhea + action = explosive diarrhea

Not tastee!

good, glad to see I wasent the only one, since my friends lack the taste to know a good film from a piece of crap

I think Ice Cube started this horrible trend.
I think Tupac started it....But then again he wasn't a terrible actor...Actually, I take that back. I'm not sure. Last time I saw a movie with Tupac in it, I was 12...And Four Brothers has to be terrible.

I actually considered seeing this just because I'm a gunplay/action junkie, but then I saw that Andre 3000 was in it and promptly changed my mind.

I feel the same way, whenever i see a dvd with a rap artist in the movie i just walk away from it. I also think when a film highlights the soundtrack in its own trailer i presume its a crap film if it can't stand on its own.

I dont know guys, it got two thumbs up and Roger/Roepert compared it to a modern Western. Hmm...

i heard good things and it beat out alot this weekend. surpise that that garbage duce biglow didnt even rank top 5.

There are only two rappers that should be allowed to rap:

Eminem - He proved us wrong once by being a good AND successful white rapper. He proved us wrong again with his acting chops in 8 mile. He wasn't blown off the screen by Basinger or Phifer.

Ice T - This dood is the man. He went from a rapper, to a rap rocker, to an actor and he REALLY IS GOOD. His acting has only improved as the years have passed and he shines quite well on Law and Order.

The rest of the posers however.......are all found wanting!!

ludacris (spelling) has been great so far. Crash and Hustle & Flow were both excellent performances.

Shrug, I don't necessarily think that just because someone has proficiency in one field that it precludes them from being capable in another, and given the sheer # of aspiring writer-directors in this user group I'm surprised that so many people are balking so solidly.

At the same time, I don't think that proficiency in one field -begets- proficiency in another. Kevin Bacon, Russell Crowe, Cuba Gooding, JR., all these guys are in bands, and I haven't heard any of them play, but I wouldn't suspect that they suck, just as a general rule. I think that if anything people are multifaceted, and that our culture tries to convince us otherwise, (hence the "orgy of specialists") and that when people break out of that, others freak out.

I also suspect that there might be a cultural bias against rappers. No one freaked out when Dwight Yoakam showed up in Panic Room.

"Well that's just one."

Or when Meatloaf showed up in Fight Club, or when Harry Connick, Jr. showed up in ID4, or David Bowie in Labrynth, or Sting in Dune, or Gavin Rossdale in Constantine, or that guy from Live in Fight Club, or that guy from INXS in that vampire movie, or Chris Isaac in Silence of the lambs, or Cher in Moonstruck, or Donnie Wahlberg in The Sixth Sense, or Jennifer Lopez in Out of Sight, or Jon Bon Jovi in U-571.

Note: I picked these performances to illustrate a point. None of these performances are terrible, and several of them are quite solid. So either you think that rappers are just bad actors, and rockers aren't, which is precarious ground to walk on (to say nothing of terrible logic) or you only notice it when rappers act, and that bothers you in a way that it doesn't when rockers act (which is slightly less precarious), or you'd never noticed your bias in this regard (less so). Sure there are other options, I guess, but those are the first three to pop into my mind.

I mean hell, a guy who gets on stage and performs, wants to do it on the screen. It's not like Ludacris is claiming to be a neurosurgeon or a stunt-biker. He's just saying "Well I put on this persona for audio, why can't I do it for video?" (And he can, at least as capably as some cats who are -just- actors)

p.s.
And if someone still thinks Mark Wahlberg is bad after 3 Kings, Boogie Nights, and Huckabees, your threshhold for acting quality must be remarkably refined. I personally think that he's like most actors, as good as the script and director allow/coach him to be.

Rap or Rock, they should all stick to music. There are plenty of real actors out there that could be filling these roles and they'd deliver better performances. Adding a Rapper/Rocker to a cast is a gimmick - just another marketing ploy. The reason you here more people complain about rappers in movies is because they're being used in major roles. I find their performances to be average at best.

Eminem in eight mile a good performance? Come on, they asked a white rapper to act like a white rapper. That's like asking a everyday cook to act like a cook in a kitchen scene.

I find Mark Wahlberg to be average at best. Which is to say, most of his stuff is below average.

I saw crash and I thought it was a good flick. Did I like Ludacris's performance? No. To me, it was obvious he was acting - same with Ice Cube.

Jennifer Lopez didn't get into singing until after she did Selena. Cher sucks, so does Bon Jovi. For the most part they all do. Tupac was okay from what I remember, but - like all of the crossovers- he lacked range. They all can do certain roles okay, but that's it.

So, why are they being cast? Demographics, that's it and it's crap. Instead of casting a lesser known actor with skill, they cast a big name musician without skill or experience. Hollywood wonders why attendance is down. It's due to shitty scripts and crappy performances.

I think you guys are wasting your time even talking about this film, its crap. HollyWood for the most part has lost its brilliance. Slimothy I think you need to go back and watch Friday, one of the best comedy films ever, Ice Cube produced and acted in it, as a first timer. For the rest of the Rappers trying to act, exclude Mos Def and Dre its pure marketing. Thats HollyWood

heres the facts in asian you have to be an all -a-round entertainer

Jackie chan does movie music producing directing and writing.
