Found footage film

Hey everyone.

I was curious as to how some of the FF horror films are shot, specifically the frame rate. If you're going for the consumer hand held look, but eventually transferring to film like in the case of Paranormal, do they shoot 30fps or do they still shoot it all in 24p? Anyone know?

Thanks.

might be my naivety on the subject, but I thought for theatrical distribution digital films get transfered.

Depends on what they use to shoot the found footage, probably. If they're doing it with low-end, or pre-2002, video cameras, then they're shooting 60i, because that's pretty much all there was.

If they're shooting something with frame rate choices, like the cameras used in Cloverfield, then I'd wager it's 24p.

I was on one of the shorts that wound up in S/V/H/S or VHS2 whatever its called. We were shooting GoPros at 25 frames and conforming to 24 using 5D2RGB. This was before the GoPro 24 update. The iPhone footage and the footage from a palm camcorder went through some other pull down conversion but I can't say what it was. Everything wound up being 24 in the edit.

Truth is, if someone is going to buy your film for distribution, the frame rate isn't going to be the deal breaker- ya know what I mean?
