4 bulbs in a metal case, and the bulbs say Sylvania movie light BEP 300 watts. They all work and are extremely bright. They say 4hr life on them. I'm thinking about building individual stands for each bulb, should I use a ceramic housing or something else?
Wonder what the socket type / base is on them? I'm guessing this may be a projector bulb perhaps. I looked it up and its discontinued but a replacement was listed as a 3200K tungsten type bulb with an E26 (medium or Edison) type base. Is that what you've got? The common type screw on base that most household tungsten bulbs use?
Yes, they fit in regular household base. The metal case they are in is a Compact-O-Lite carring case that shows a picture of a guy with a camera resting it a bar looking thing with what looks like all 4 lights pointing foward on it. It's a really old looking picture. Here is the case I have on ebay, the bulbs look a little different though.
Everytime I go to a flea market I look for these. They are called a light bar and they were designed to attach the 8mm movie camera right on top with the 1/4 20 screw. The old 8mm film needed a lot of light. I put 4 outside (90 watt) flood lights in it and use it in a pinch if I need to light a large void. I also have put CFL's in it and suspended it over a couple to act as a China Ball. They ususally have 2 switches to allow you to turn on either 2 or 4 bulbs. I also use it for a work light if I have to paint or work outside.
