Hows it going, how can I change the timecode on my fostex fr2-le field recorder to 23.98? I dont see it in the menus, any help please.

What is the default, 29.98? 24 fps? I want to see this and change it, thanks.

What do you mean sync? You mean squeezing it in fcp to whatever timeline, be it a 23.98 or 24fps, or 29.97, it will stretch it or squeeze it acordingly, wont that mess up the pitch?

23.976 and 29.97 are the same speed..... video speed.
If you are shooting 24p the frame rate is 23.9.

As long as you're not changing the playback speed of your video, you shouldn't have to worry about frame-rates on a non-timecode recorder. Even if you're using a TC recorder, the various frame rates only impact the TC stamping, not the actual recording/playback speed (typically 48kHz for video work). The frame rate on TC recorders does not effect the speed of the recorder, it only effects the method by which the TC reader/generator counts.

Things get more complicated when you start moving between different frame rates with your footage. For example, if you take footage shot at 24 frames per second and play it back at 29.97 fps (ie. film to video conversion), you will be changing the speed of the playback, and you'll have to make a corresponding change to the audio. On the other hand, you can convert 23.976 fps footage to 29.97 fps without affecting the playback speed (that's why 24p video actually runs at 23.976 fps).

As long as you import a 48 kHz audio file into a session set up for 48 kHz audio, the audio will play back at the same speed it was recorded (48,000 samples per second). As long as you're not transferring between film and video, playback speed should be a non-issue.

But that's all academic, because the FR-2 LE doesn't have a TC generator or reader. However, its older sibling the FR-2 can be equipped with a TC option.
