Forum software noob

So there's a million different kinds of forum software. I wanted to start a forum for a series project I'm working on. Anyone had a good experience with a specific type of forum software? Right now I'm just using Coffee Cup software (no forum abilities) w/ InMotion Hosting (I don't think hosting companies supply software, do they?)

Any help/links would be appreciated!

Thanks!

The keyword here is "php". The biggest "ah ha" moment for me in web development came at learning how to use these. You don't have to know how to program in PHP, just how to take what other people have programmed and use it on your webserver.

If you want free, go with PHPBB. If you're willing to pay, vBulletin (DVXUser uses it) is probably by far the best currently available forum script. vBulletin starts at $200 and goes up.

Unn hunh. Trying to make competition for DVXUser, ehh?

LOL

Actually you're not lightyears off, though it's more the ethereal (and also indie comics and animation). I got into trouble here (and so blocked for two weeks) after voicing my opinion about why one should make an independent film, so after that I thought it best to just come here for friendly tech stuff and go somewhere else for more phylosophical and theoretical discussions. Love me some DVXUSER, but sometimes I think I try to make it my be all, end all and that's just (potentially rightly) not tolerated here.

There's room enough in the universe for all of us, though. :)

I think I'm going to go with Invision Power "IP.Board". It's like 150 bucks and looks pretty sleek and should be able to meet my needs.

I really liked the look of the interface for VB, though. It's like 250, though. I'd like something that's similar to Coffee Cup in that it has a UBER easy interface. I'm pretty much a drag and dropper.
