Forum HVX Equipment Idea

Hey everyone,

Just had a thought: with the HVX only 3 months old, it seems like there's a good amount of "what (insert item here) should I get for my HVX?" questions floating about the forum (I know I've started at least 2 of those). What if a sticky was created compiling some of this information for newcomers to take a glance at, kind of a "so you want to know what others recommend for your HVX?" guide?

For example, based on the responses to my question about protecting the lens, it seems pretty safe to say that if I'm looking for a good screw on type filter to protect the lens, I should jump for the B+W 82mm UV/Haze (MRC) brand (still dunno whether slim or regular).

It could be broken down by equipment type, and then what if the top 3 most popular items in any given field could have a quick one sentance description, and a poll could be created for each one to keep user opinions coming in?

Just a thought, so that everyone's time and information still can help others instead of being buried in the forums after a while.

I like the idea. I'll be looking for toys at NAB for my HVX.
I'm so excited to be able to buy more affordable jibarms, steadycam units etc. for the lighter camera.
Anything for my Docked Beta camera/deck was so expensive!

I can create a sticky about this topic but I'd like to see some consensus about what accessories are most important. I would like you all to post links to product suggestions in this thread. If enough come I'll create the sticky with the list.
Here would be my catagories.

Light control & accs. support (Matteboxes/Filter holders/Rods/Bridge plates)
Filters, 4x and 82mm (UV, Protectors, Polarizers, ND Grads, Digi-con, Pro-mist, etc.)
Focus/zoom/iris cotrol (Follow focus's, Foxi, Varizoom ect.)
P2/Mass Storage (Firestore, Cineporter, FW HDDs, P2 Store)
Tripods & Stable Support (Tripods, jibs, dollies, hi-hats, fluid heads, ect.)
Motive support (Steadi-cams, handheld rigs, fig rig, car mounts ect.)
Cases and bags (Camera and accs. cases, hard or soft)
Audio (On camera only, shotgun and wireless)
Monitoring (Field and production, LCD or CRT, HD, SD ect.)
Power & on camera lighting (Lite panel ect. Battteries and chargers + accs.)

Have at it.

Alright, here's some stuff a good amount of people seem to agree with:

Light control & accs. support:
Matteboxes:
Low-Budget
-IndieSNAP! or Formatt FM-500
High Budget
-Chrosziel 450-HVX200K
(possibly Vocas in a sort of "medium budget" category?)

Filters:
Screw on type (make sure to get 82mm)
-B+W brand (make sure to get MRC coating)
--82mm B+W UV/Haze (MRC) Slim Filter (great to start out and protect lens)

Cases and bags:
Soft Cases (lighter and easier to carry, hold a great deal of stuff, great protection)
-Portabrace (popular choice in industry)
--HKP-3 (shoulder bag with optional backpack straps, large size, modular interior)
--DVO-2U (large equipment bag, can hold HVX and mattebox, rods, etc.)
--CS-DV4U (smaller, holds camera and necessary extras, airline carry-on ready)
Hard Cases (heavier, best protection you can buy for your camera,
-Pelican (extremely rugged protection. Emphasis on EXTREMELY.)

Tripods and Stable Support:
Tripods and Tripod Kits
Low Budget: look into Bogen/Manfrotto line
-Bogen Manfrotto 503 Fluid Head
High Budget: Vinten, Miller, Sachtler
-Vinten Vision 3 Tripod System (aluminum or carbon, uses special springs to be able to perfectly counterbalance most camera weights, excellent reviews).

Motive Support:
Steadicam (original steadicam makers, arguably the best)
-Steadicam Merlin

OK, well, that's about all I can really give information wise. If anybody has any objections just post, and obviously additions would be excellent (as you can see there is obviously a few more products which can be placed in the categories). And I only put details and organized it like this because I had a quite a bit to write down.

:) Thanks evinsky. You make the Decepticons proud.
