Formatting 500 Gig Lacie Hard drive

Hi,
I just bought a 500 gig Lacie hard drive and when I hook it up to my laptop Windows XP wizard recognizes it and loads it but when I open my computer the hard drive does not show up, however it does show up in system manager. How do I go about manually formatting this drive so it is recognized by my computer also please be advised that I do beleive that this is 2 250 drives linked together in one case. Any help in solving theis problem would be great. Thanks

Lacies website should have an FAQ covering this. For one, you'll need Service Pack One or greater for it to recognize it as anything more than 170gig, and your motherboard will have to support drives of that size without a control card. If its pretty dang new, it probably does. You should be able to format it using the drive management utility in the Administrative Tools in your control panel. I would first go to the Lacie website support section.

try going to control panel/administrative tools/computer management/disk management. Find your drive, it should be there, right click and hit format. Dats it! Hope this helps!

USB2 hard drive? Don't forget to go grocery shopping while it's formatting. That's an awful lotta hard drive to format. My 250 WD took over an hour.
