Forgetting Sarah Marshal

Okay, there will be spoilers, but I won't spoil any plot points. This was a good movie. As will probably be the main question asked, was it better than the other Apatow movies, Superbad, 40 year old Virgin, and whatever that other one was? Well, here's my answer: I don't think Apatow had much to do with this. I have no proof here. It's just a hunch. But I know this: When someone's name is hot in the business, the marketers try to put it on everything and anything that's being released. Apatow seems to be that person now. Remember when Scream came out and for the next two years we had about 18 horror movies with Kevin Williamson's name on them? Later on he confessed that people would just come to him and say, "We'll give you half a million dollars if we can make you a producer on this film". Just so they could put his name on it. Of course he said yes because while some people may say it's selling out, others will say it's free money. You have to be quite a person to turn down free money. Man, do I want to get to a point in my life where people are offering me money to put my name on their project.

So that's my theory. They just basically said, "hey Apatow, can we put your name on this?" Someone on this board will probably prove me wrong though.

Sooooo, what about the movie? I didn't think the movie was all that funny. What I did think was that the movie was good. I really bought into the characters and the storyline, which in my eyes is the sign of a good film. I mean, the whole thing in the beginning of the movie where Sara Marshal breaks up with Jason (forgot his character's name) and he's naked --- ehhhh, I don't know. It seemed like an attempt at a "There's Something About Mary" moment, but without the funny parts. But for those that don't know, they show EVERYTHING. And I just don't find that funny. I guess the idea is funny. But it seemed awkward. And the audience I was with reacted the same way. The guys in particular were very uncomfortable. Who knows, maybe that's what he was going for.

But then the movie goes on and you really start to feel for this guy and even though I wasn't laughing that much, I wanted to know what happened.

Both the chicks were great. I don't know much about what's her name who played Sarah Marshal, but she was great. And I would've slit my throat before ever watching an episode of That 70's Show (I hate anything about the 70s) so I didn't know much about Mila Kunis (is that her name?) either. But she was awesome. You totally fall in love with her. And finally, the British singer who is with Sarah is also great. He's probably the funniest thing in the movie. I'd never heard of him before.

All in all, I'd give this movie 3 out of 4 stars - just because I wanted to laugh more. But it's definitely worth seeing, especially with a date.

So

I just saw it, and laughed harder than anything I've seen in theaters for a long time. This movie worked. It was hilarious. The acting was at par for the main cast (except Kristen Bell, she was HORRIBLE in this movie). Paul Rudd, and Jonah Hill, and Bill Hader were great supporting characters.

Definitely worth seeing in theaters.

Haven't seen it yet, but I feel that this one has Apatow written all over it. It has a lot to do with the actors. It's kind of the Apatow gang of people (some from freaks and geeks, undeclared, and his other movies).

It's written by Jason Segal (the lead), and he's part of the Apatow gang. Jason Segel was also part of Undeclared and Freaks and Geeks, both produced by Judd Apatow.

The Judd Apatow Gang seems to be Apatow, Jason Segel (F&G, Undeclared, Knocked Up, forgetting Sarah), James Franco (F&G, Pinnapple Express), Seth Rogan (F&G, Undeclared, 40 yo virg, Knocked up, Superbad, Pinneaple Express, new untitled apatow/sandler project) Martin Starr (F&G, Knocked up, superbad), occasional appearances from Carla Gallo (Undeclared, 40 yo virgin, superbad, forgetting sarah).

Then there's Paul Rudd, from 40 yo virgin and knocked up who's in Forgetting Sarah Marshal. Jonah Hill from 40 yo virgin, knocked up, superbad is in forgetting Sarah Marshall. Bill Hader, from 40 yo virgin, knocked up, and superbad is also in Forgetting Sarah.

I doubt that it's not an Apatow production. Even if he didn't have as much to do with this one, he had some influence, bringing in some of the actors he knows. Also, it's clear that he and Segel are friends, just like the others.

The thing about this one is that Apatow didn't write it. Then again, he didn't write superbad, Seth Rogan did (from the 'gang').

Great movie. Not cliché at all, and I think it's one of my fav. movies in terms of dialog. The dialog was PERFECT.

The actors fit the movie SO well also.

I loved the british guy, he did fabulous.

Kristen Bell, never seen her act before, but she is one smoking actress, and I thought she was great in this movie.

Neat story.

I did actually think the whole movie was a bit plain/dull and there wasn't much to it. It was def. a different film than any other.

I'll go 4.5/5 :)

Anything that has Apatow written over it will give me a good laugh. This was a great comedy, check it out if you're a fan of the other Apatow movies.

I haven't seen it, but the previews had one of the funniest one-liners I've ever heard,

When Jonah Hill is watching Russell Brand dance and says, "I just went from 6 to midnight." That's gold!
