Forgetting anything?

I think this is the most appropriate thread for this. If not, mods please inform me. Thanks.

I'm putting the final touches on the gear list for the new studio. Projects will range from short commercials to band performances and music videos to a reality tv series. Most projects will be shot in 720p DVCPRO HD. For the time being we'll use our HVX to capture footage from the P2 cards. In the future, when we get more HVX's, we will be add the 5 bay P2 drive.

Minus audio monitors, my boss is an engineer and will be taking care of that part, this the list:

------------

Computer:

Mac Pro: 2.66GHz, 250GB, 1GB RAM, ATI X1900, Bluetooth and Airport
$2,827

Extras:

400GB HD
$84.99

4GB RAM
$249.99

Logitech Desktop S 530 Laser (keyboard/mouse)

$699 (each)

MOTU V3HD
$2,589.95

Panasonic 17" HD Monitor

500GB OWC Firewire 800 External Drive

---------

Anything I should add? Potential alternatives?

Cabling will be taken care of later.

I suggest you could also purchase Adobe CS3 Suite which will give you:

Photoshop, After Effects, On Location, Illustrator and Premiere.

I have a Hybrid Suite ( FCP and Adobe) and they all work well together.

Some of the Adobe apps are a must have anyway so buy the suite.

Yup, we have CS3 suite already.

Oh, almost forgot, if yer gonna be doing your own onlining you'll want to pick up a hardware HD scope.

Ask me any question about MOTU V3HD. I've been working with it for about a month and also finished a HD drama for the broadcast.

Apple suggests more than 4GB RAM and if you do a lot with Motion, then you should go higher.

OK...WHY the MOTU? Why not the AJA I/O HD? That gets you ProRes...MOTU is limited to DVCPRO HD.

Why the two Dells AND the Samsung? I see the Panasonic and the two Dells, but what does the Samsung do to serve you?

Speakers? Mixer? Gotta have those. OH...wait....I see you said you boss has those...pardon. Mic for recording VO or whatever...possibility.

VeHD connectivity

VeHD connectivity

Kaku.

I've had some issues connecting the V3HD to my HVR M10U. Should I go with the component connector or the firewire? I have it now through FW, but it is giving me all sorts of problems. Unfortunately, the component input on the V3HD is being used by my Beta SP deck. What do you recommend or how can I best connect the HDV deck to work with the Motu? I am currently using FC 5.1.4.

Hi, just curious.

i see that you are building a very impresive set up. May I ask. Why did you go with the Dell monitors instead of the Apple HD display? I see that price difference is not that big so I don't think that is the reason, right?

I was saving to get a Apple HD display after the mac expo in Jan 08, it will be good to know from your experience if I should look into something else.

Thanks a lot
Osmany

Hi, V3HD's firewire ports are to connect to the computer and also to daisychain other firewire devices but the video stream from cameras won't go directly to V3HD, it would just let you connect the camera to the PC.
So I would connect the cam's component out to V3HD HD component.
If you get a deck with HDSDI output then connect it to V3HD's HDSDI input.
At this point, you should connect them with HD component.
