Dear friends.

Here is a short "no budget, instant" music clip I shot with the new Sony Alpha A-65 as a test while having it for a day. A bit more info on the vimeo page. Will post my thoughts regarding the camera later this week.

Thanks for watching.

Looks great for a quickie Johnnie! What are your thought on the full-resolution output? Was there much in the way of artefacting (moire, alaising, compression mush) that posed any problems?

How would you say it compares to other DSLRs you've shot with?

I´ve been thinking about getting this camera. I love my little NEX-5N but it doesn´t have a proper mic input, it overheats (the NEX7 does too) and it doesn´t have in-body IS. How do you like this camera for video? Is it easy to adapt other lenses? Is the IS effective?

Hi rawfa.

It is a very long time since I had this camera for a test.

I've decided to skip it because of various professional reasons.

Other lenses are not easy to adapt.

Thanks!

Johnnie

I'm very surprised that you NEVER hear about this camera on dvxuser as a potential movie camera. Everyone talks the Canon and Nikon but not the Sony. I hear that the translucent mirror knocks down the f-stop/exposure. yes? Well I can't imagine it being anything as bad as using those DOF adaptors with their prisms and mirrors flipping and flopping the image all over creation. ( I shot with the Letus for over a year). I would think since you can look through the viewfinder while shooting in movie mode (unlike the Canons and Nikon) that would be a big plus, especially outdoors. So what's wrong with this camera? Looks pretty good to me, yet no one talks about it in filmmaking circles.

tne nex-5n is sometimes mentioned, but the alphas, rarely - I think it's because the alphas have many usability issues: dumb user interface, things that are annoyingly different from stills mode, stupid limitations (phase detect AF only works if you shoot with auto exposure), etc, but that's just the general idea I got from the comments around - also, some people complain that the codec in the nex cameras breaks down quite easily, and I guess the alphas are no better in this respect - regarding the mirror, you lose only between a third of a stop and half a stop of light
