Foreign sales agent - Do I need one?

Hey guys, I work for a company that manufactures and ships their own movies. I asked them if they use a foreign sales agent but they wont tell me. I figured they wouldnt need one because they're not trying to get the film sold to another distributor but rather just individual clients such as www"dvd store name".com. Are foreign sales agents used primarily for filmmmakers who have 1 or 2 films seeking distribution or would distributors benefit from them as well and how? Thanks.
 
Do you have everything in place that is needed for a foreign agent to even consider it? PAL versions in SD and HD, dialog master, subtitle track, textless master, D, M& E stems, for stereo and surround, etc.

Yes all those things are in place. I guess my real question is validating the options I think are available. Use a foreign sales agent and ship the DVDs directly or Ship to another distribution company and then they can sell/market it there. Thanks for the quick response
 
A sales agent will sell the rights to a distributor in each of the countries for either DVD, television, stresming, VOD, etc. If a deal is struck that works for you, then they have the master elements from which the distributor will create their own artwork, translation, DVD, or television version (commercial breaks and such). Sending DVD's directly to a distributor is usually not the way it is done.
