For users familiar with Lowel lights, kits

which one should I get? which ones exactly do you use

I can't answer this for you. I have some of every kind in different wattages. Sometimes when I just want a kiss of hair light and the fixture is close, and I have a window, I use a small daylight bulb.

If I am using the 1k Softbox lamp, and I want some fill on the other side, I might use the 100w equivalent 3200k bulb. For $100 you could one of every kind. Take a good look at how you plan to use the light, and go from there. Much of my work is done in rooms with windows, so the daylight bulbs are most valuable to me.

Hi there, just to make sure, as i understand it now fluorescents are cooler than tungsten light, but do they also use less watt for the same amount of light?

thanks

Flourescents come in an array of color temps. I've seen 2800-6000K. Most are labelled as to what they are.

As for how much light yes, they produce more lumens per watts, but the falloff is much more rapid than a tungsten hardlight (fresnel, par). The flos will also produce a much softer light without the need for diffusion than tungstens. A much different quality of light but very useful for a soft light where you want to reduce power draw and heat output.
