For those of you that were asking me...

The first vignette is available on my website. It's a look at lighting a headshot with a film-style technique. Over 50 minutes in length it should become the definitive look at lighting a sit down interview witha DVX100. Look at it as a "This Old House" meets reality television meets the directors commentary on a DVD. Or put it this way, what Barry has done for the DVX this will do for lighting with the DVX.

I'm looking forward to your DVDs! And I if I wasn't in college I'd be attending your NYC classes. Walter is the man, in case you all don't know :-P

BTW I asked fifty people what they thought it was worth and took the average of what they said so it's priced to be affordable. I'm trying to make top notch info available at a price folks can easily afford.

Walter

I notice some of the Discs are geared towards 'Network Lighting' and some are geared towards 'Film' lighting. Any ETA on the other(s) in the series? How soon can we expect to see them?

Good question. No answer yet. What do you want next? The other titles are all based on my request for ideas from folks on the web so if anyone has any ideas, please pass them along. The headshot is the basis for everything you see from a guy in car at night to someone in bed so understanding it is important and a gateway to better lighting in general. If one can master this technique, they can do much more with everything else or so the students of my seminars say to me all the time.

Thanks for all of your extremely valuable instruction. I know you don't have to, but like the other pros that spend their valuable time giving instruction to all those eager to learn, you are very much appreciated! I've also placed my order for the current DVD and am looking forward to what you have to say.

I would like to place my vote for any instruction on how to light moving talent. This is something I've always been challenged with and would appreciate some tips on how you would approach the challenge with a minimal kit.

Thanks again.

Walter what I hear that a lot of my friends look for is lighting outside. Using HMIs or just using reflectors with the sun. The overall exposure for shooting outside on a cloudy day, blue sky, bright sun light (if there is not alternative) and of course magic hour. Anything pertaining to shooting exteriors would be greatly appreciated.

Just checked out your site. I will take your day class, just have to figure out what day works for me. Great informational site!

the dvd is really great! just fast forward though the part with the chubby faced guy and pay attention to the attractive young woman used as a model...

i was thrilled to work with walter on this dvdand horrifed to be asked to sit as the male sit-in!

i vote for the second dvd to cover people moving, basically two couples sitting around in a living room or at a dining room table with some walking around and just generally lighting the whole room/area vs. just stationary people from one angle, multiiple angles.

basically something like what you would use in a short, people moving around a little bit and the key is the lighting would be setup ONCE and be usable for both parties and you wouldn't have to change anything when you do the reversals for the conversation when you go back and forth from each side of the line.

Walter,

Thanks for your invaluable work! I'm ordering your dvd, as well.

I'm 100% with matthewd5 relative to the next dvd -- lighting for people moving in a short. Matthew described it perfectly in his post above and this kind of lighting falls into the same critical lighting category as interview lighting. The applications for lighting people moving around are universal across the board -- wheather you're doing commercial, documentary, industrial or documentary work. The lighting set up the way Matthew has described it is crucial. But, of course, you know that well beyond the rest of us!

Walter,
I with matthewd5 and alumna. I would like to see a video about lighting moving people.

Ordered my DVD a few days ago, can't wait to watch it.

2 sweet, Walt!! Just ordered my copy today.

Hmmmm. I am stuck between horror-lighting, moving shots, car interior lighting (day and nite), and old skool film-noir as your next DVD to release (decisions, decisions) Whatever you decide, you know we're all gonna get it.

Oh, if you could add these to the list, maybe a DVD talking about what lights/accessories you should ALWAYS have in your kit no matter what, and what lights/lighting work for what situation, and how-and-when to use filters/gels/scrims. I've always felt a lot of books/videos (even Jackman's book) were kind of vague and less than thorough in this area.

Thanks again as always!!

if you do a search you can find an article walter posted a while back that shows his lighting kit with an inventory of all the contents.

the article really helped me figure out what to get, especially the little stuff.

A DVD on lighting moving shots, I could get into. But also I'd love to see one on lighting night scenes/dark scenes. Much of the stuff I read on lighting does not deal directly with this area.

Sweet, great price Walter. I will order a copy very soon as I am beginning to use lights in my work(finally!). Next DVD, Film Noir lighting please :)

Not even close to being interested in a lighting for the headshot DVD but an action one will tickle me..... Consider one sold to me if it's ever made.
