Sequel in the pipes... courtesy of the Weinsteins.
So I hear, anyway. I think there's an article in Variety today about it, but I cant access the site. If anyone can link us up, please do.

a sequel?

you're not talking about tom yung goon right? Thats already been out, just not here yet.

He's maniacal in it too.

The first one had awesome fights and stunts. Tony Jaa did all his own stunts without any wires. And he did some crazy stuff!

Hope the second one is as good or better. Less plot, more action.

I dont usually do this, but here's a copy/paste job from another website. I dont think it sounds like TYG:

Weinsteins are back with another 'Bak'

TWC nabs rights to boxing pic

By PATRICK FRATER

The Weinstein Co. has bought world rights, excluding Asia and the U.K., to "Ong bak 2," the sequel to 2003's Tony Jaa-starring Thai boxing hit "Ong bak."

Deal was struck with sales arm Sahamongkolfilm Intl. on Friday, just after the wrap of Hong Kong's FilMart, and continues TWC's relationship with Jaa.

Last year TWC bought rights to his "Tom yum goong" for the U.S., Scandinavia, South Africa and Australia/New Zealand.

Thai distrib Sahamongkolfilm Intl. will handle licensing for "Ong bak 2" in remaining territories.

"Ong bak 2" is in advanced development, with production skedded for the fall. Panna Rittikrai, scripter and action director of the original pic, is in negotiations to direct. Jaa takes an action director credit on the sequel.

Jaa plays a young man on a journey that teaches him the skills and inner meaning of martial arts.

The first "Ong bak" was licensed jointly by Golden Network and EuropaCorp and was released in the U.S. by Magnolia Pictures.

Pretty cool. i guess?
Think they'll make tony learn english for this one?
i've heard he's been taking lessons.
Any word on the talks of him and jackie chan making a movie?

that wasnt chan lol.
it was a look-a-like.

I'll take your word on it as it wasnt released anywhere near me. Dunno if it even has been released in the states yet. has it? It took a couple years to secure US distribution of Ong Bak, I think.

Infokill is right Tharley. It's a-look-a-like.

If you can read french :

Clin d'oeil à Jackie Chan
Ce n'est pas Jackie Chan qui apparaît dans le film mais un simple sosie. La star des arts martiaux se voit ainsi rendre un bel hommage de la part de Tony Jaa pour qui il est une véritable idole.

:dankk2: reading and understanding are two diff things. But I now you guys wouldnt tell me wrong. Funny, anyway, even moreso knwoing it was a lookalike. heh!

When I first saw Tom Yum Goong I thought it was the sequel to Ong Bak too. But, its just another movie with two of the same actors and almost the same plot (Ong Bak was about a stolen sacred statue and TYG is about a stolen sacred elephant). The fight scenes were great, but the overall movie sucked.

The English actors they had in it were awful!! It hurt watching them. I guess the Thai producers just walked up to any foreigner and asked them, "Can you speak English? Ok, good. Say this into the camera."

Tony Jaa is amazing to watch. He is definitely the next Jackie Chan.

Man you're lucky you've already gotten to see TYG.

Hey in that scene where he runs and jumps off the building and knees that guy off the helicopter, is that as wicked as it looks?

Im with PK, the overall movie for TGY was really bad. Ong Bak was much much better compared to it. The fight scenes are what made the movie really (and the camera work!)
Jaa is wroking on another movie called sword. Same plot as the other two maybe? he said he would be using different forms of Muay Thai in each movie. I guess this one is going to be weapon based. Should be interesting.
