I'm editing my next music video which is a full on performance video. It's a 5 piece band and I have tons of footage. How do you guys and girls organize it in editing? I'm sifting through each clip, but that's taking forever.
I use two timelines -- a SOURCE timeline and a MASTER timeline. The source timeline has all the shots synched up on different video tracks. It is quite vertical (10-20+ tracks) but nice b/c you can look at everything easily.
I then watch all the clips and just make marks at the moments I think are best for each track. Then I cut those parts out and place them on the Master Timeline. The Master Timeline is synched to the same audio track, that way you can just compare timecode between timelines to make sure everything is still in synch.
Normally right after I cut something, I smooth it out afterward in the Source Timeline by using Join Through Edit. It helps keep things from being chaotically messy.
