Football player promo video-tips?

I've been asked to produce a football player "slate" or promo video for a promising high school player to send to college coaches. Ive never done this.

Anybody have any experience with this? The family has some footage and I will have to shoot some footage. Any tips on length, what to highlight, what the coaches are looking for would be appreciated.

True, sorry I wasn't more clear. I was meanng more like, do they only want to see only game film type wide angles, or do they prefer closeups, multi-angles? I'm just brainstorming here, cause I have no experience with this product.

I think schools want performance first and a lack of B.S. second... if a player is also a good student I'd probably mention it, but get to the meat of the video asap (performance).

what coaches are looking for: game footage of a football player that is athletic enough to play for their program.

a couple of years ago i shot high school football games for a scouting service that sells footage to colleges. here is some info on how i was told to shoot.

1. get up high. preferably on top of the press box. get as close to the 50 yard line as you can. obviously you'll be using a tripod.
2. make sure the angle isn't too wide. before the snap you'll want to leave roughly 5 yards behind the running backs and linebackers. you'll have to go wider than that to fit in wide receivers or defensive backs.
3. follow the ball and slowly zoom in on the ball carrier.
4. at the end of the play you'll want to be fully zoomed in so you can see the numbers of the players that made the play.

i would keep the highlight film around 5 minutes. have contact information at the beginning of the video. some videos include music, others don't.

you may want to include either a circle or an arrow pointing the player so he is easily identifiable.

here is an example of a highlight film that should give you some ideas.

OK... THAT is what you want to do.

That's a convincing reel... no B.S. and right to the point... the kid makes plays. The best thing about that vid is how you see other players getting "juked" while he hones in on the tackle. Circling the player like that... smart.

Ugafan is right on the money. If you send out a vid like that (with plays like that)... the kid's play speaks for itself.
