footage screams video

Just finished editing a short. Shot anamorphically plus the letterbox bars in camera. I now have 1.78:1 footage with black bars. Is there a way to completely cut down the bars?
Meaning the bars that will be put up by the TVs are the only bars you will see. I do not wish for the bars on the frames.
The thing is that when played on certain tvs the black bars of the TV do not usually match color of the letterboxes of the footage.
Oh also one thing is the flicker that i get when watching on tv. Is there a filter to remedy the flicker make a softer picture?
Thank so much.

Re: footage screams video

Now that i think of it, the aspect ratio of the film shot will not be stable at 1.78:1 if i somehow cut down the bars entirely.
There is nothing to do with the 2.37:1 footage after the bars are removed. Besides, if the 1:78:1 footage is treated like 2.37:1 footage then it will become a big stretched mess. Sheesh...
