footage quality - transfert

Hello,

I'm a bit new with AE, and i'm trying to work on some footage from my HMC150.

I transfert my files directly from my camera to FCP, then I import in AE from my capture scratch.

The problem is :

The quality of my footage (that was great in FCP) become really shitty in AE: artifacts, bad resolution...name it.

Am I transfering it the right way?

PS: also, I worked on some footage that came with the Action Essential 2 pack from video copilot, I had a similar problem. In AE, the quality was bad, not as bad than with own footage but...enough to slightly irritate me.

Any help would be greatly welcome.

Thanks

UPDATE: I think that the quality problem might have a link with the fact that I reduce the size of my video to fit it to the AE's composition screen.

The quality isn't great at full size (compared to what I have in FCP), but that's when I reduce my image that pixels appear.

That's an observation, not a solution. I'm still searching :)

you can switch between full / half / third / quarter resolution for the AE preview monitor, maybe you're not viewing it at full resolution?
Do you have any color workspace activated in AE?

I'm already at full resolution. I don't think I have any color workspace activated, or it's activated by default. How can I check that?

But the major problem seems to be the size adjustment that I do in AE, when I convert it to 50% of the actual size.

You're going to have to give more details to get an answer that will do you any good.

Dimensions?
PAR?
Codec/footage source?
Comp dimensions?
Where you're seeing the problem, is it in the renders too?
How are you exporting out of FCP? To what codec? Etc…
Maybe some screenshots for comparison?

I can tell you right now with 100% confidence that AE's scaling is FAR superior to FCP's crappy transform. I know this as fact and from working with both programs for years. You're doing something wrong and there's a few dozen different places you could be messing something up without knowing. Hence the need for as much information as possible.
