footage in WMV from the HD mod

Obin, have you tried any greenscreen work yet? Any thoughts on that?

I'm intrigued that you're going to remove the stock lens. Keep up the good work. :)

VariCam is 960x720 our modded dvx is 1540x990 so yes it looks as good or better then the VariCam
Hi,

You didn't just say that. VariCam, as a camera body, produces 1280x720 images over an uncompressed HD-SDI output. Maybe you are referring to the DVCProHD codec which resamples with a reduced luma grid... But, that is a property of the recording format, not the camera. A user should be able to take the HD-SDI output of the VariCam and record uncompressed from it as well. Obviously, this isn't apples to apples. Neither is it [insert difficult profession here]. I have seen the grabs from a DVX100a and they are not on the same quality level as an uncompressed VariCam.

I would not question that, however most people work from the VariCam TAPE, not the raw port..that is all I am talking about...I understand that the CHIPS on the VariCam are 960wide....?

Argh! Obin, you're really making me jealous now! =D

I'll have to try burning that to DVD tonight as well!

I think Brian's trying to say "fair's fair" -- if you're going to compare a DVX with Andromeda that requires a computer to capture uncompressed, then it's only fair to compare that against the VariCam using HD-SDI output to a computer to capture uncompressed. And no matter what, the VariCam is going to win that competition by a landslide.

And the chips on the VariCam are 1280x720.

Barry,

As far as I remember, the Mini-35 tests you made when you transferred to 35mm weren't very satisfactory to you, right?
Do you think the same applies to the DVX+mod+Mini-35(or micro35)?

I know you haven't tried it, but from your experience, what do you think the results would be?

Fidel.

bottom line is this, VariCam or no VariCam..the IMAGES I am getting look the best of anything outside film I have seen around here...

Obin has been using a DIY version of the micro35 (something you build with parts from Home Depot). We're gonna see about helping him out to something closer to the production version.

Can't wait to try the "real" micro35 out...if I can get results with the DIY I bet the real one is really amazing

i would be a beta tester, yes

i think the beta slots are full....but you can ask...it will cost you about $1500
