footage in WMV from the HD mod

Man, this is amazing! I wonder what these guys can do with a camera such as the SDX900, or the upcoming HVX or even the JVC ProHDV.

Obin, how do you control the exposure?

Thanks in advance

Fidel.

EDIT: The next big thing on this would be variable frame rate. I would love to see that.

I followed Juan Pietiera develop this on the DVinfo forum and I am glad to see footage of the working model. I, like the poster before would love to see what they can do with the forthcoming HVX. The footage is beautiful but I'm sure it took time to color correct.

check this:

using the micro35 adaptor I built and the Reel-Stream output!

looks nothing of "video" does it ;)

my next mission is to take the lens off the dvx and machine a 16mm lens mount for it..the built in lens is really soft I find with all the mods I have going it is the lens that sucks now ...;(

Color me ignorant but why would you pay $3000 for a dvx and $3000 for the andromeda box when you could buy the new Panasonic camera? Seriously, I'm asking what the advantages are, because I am unaware.

I think that this is more geared toward current DVX owners, as you would only have to pay $3k to get near HD results (From what I remember the actual frame taken off the camera is just shy of a HD frame), and uncompressed footage (4:4:4). Where as to get the new panasonic camera you would have to get an entirely new camera at $6k and then pay $4k for the media to record the HD image - total $10k. And the image would be compressed at 4:2:2 I think (?).

If your new in the market, and haven't bought a camera, then I think it might be better to just buy the new camera. It will be interesting to see the footage of the new camera compared to this mod.

I just checked out the specifics-

Reel-stream grabs a 1540 x 990 frame

720p HD is 960 x 720
1080p HD is 1280 x 1080

So the reel-stream grab would be more then enough info for a 720p HD workflow, and if you scaled the footage ever so slightly it might work as an 1080p HD workflow. (As I do not have this mod, I do not know if this would work. it is only a guess from the specs.)

using micro35 adpator...screwed up the outside shot as you can see the dark corners..did not zoom in enough...

yes it works VERY well as a 720 workflow...I have shot VariCam @ 720 and this thing is about the same resolution...and NO compression.....sick

How would you say the footage compares side by side? The DVX mod should give you a full 1280x720 frame instead of downsampling it to 960x720 like the varicam right?

Also, you have a g35 and a micro 35, right? So far, how do they compare (especially the amount of grain at f5.6 or f8.)

VariCam is 960x720 our modded dvx is 1540x990 so yes it looks as good or better then the VariCam
