ok here you go:

some weird color work for fun..and a off framerate shot...but do check it out...and to think this is from our trusty little dvx100A??? ...one word...SWEET ;)

yes, 1280x720 8 or 10bit 4:4:4 from the dvx100

Oh my god, that looks awesome! Have you tried doing any greenscreen yet? Can you post an uncompressed fullres still or two? Thanks man.

.

.

So, this is the mod where you are tapping directly into the CCD of the camera, right?

I think a couple of good clips to show off the new capabilities of the camera would be to shoot a resolution chart if you can get one, and some landscape shots so we can see how much more information is available...

what did you exactly do to the footage, obin? just color change? do you have the widescreen adapter?

Do we know how the footage is being output? Is it to an external hard drive? Or is it still to tape? If it's to a hard drive, I wonder what that opens up for variable frame rate possibilities?

no wide adaptor....that is a cropped 4x3 hd image hard disk recording on a mac mini with touch screen is how i have it setup right now..it spits out raw tiff files at 24fps that you can convert to any codec you want.

Man, I can't play it back smoothly! Could it be too much for my G4 (Dual 1.42, 512MB RAM, currently)

Amazing shots, I knew you were up to something...

That's looking tight. I've been waiting for someone to post an actual ReelStream image for a long time.

If you have a chance, might you snap a couple photos of your camera with the modification installed? Also, what program are you using to marry the TIFF files together? ReelStream has an automation application written for this purpose - is that right?

I am interested in the possibility of this mod, but from how the setup sounds, it does not sound very flixabl/portable. Am I right in assuming that as of right now you wouldn't be able to have the camera on a crane, dolly, or steadycam rig due to the fact that you have to connect the camera to a computer?

I would love to get this, but as the majority of my work comes from location videography, special events, and documentary style filming, it doesn't sound like I would be using it a lot, if at all - that is if I have to remain connected to a computer that has to be connected to the wall. (I can't imagine trying to set that up at a wedding for example ...)

Robin: can u post a Pic of the set up, and on the NLE is it a regular 24p project or do u have to alter the settings ?

so could this be used with DVRack?

How much was the andromeda thing?

thanx man.

I will post some pics of the setup as it is now....but I have a commercial to shoot with it all day Monday...will do it in the next 2 days for ya guys and gals!! it really is amazing..holds up VERY well aginst the VariCam IMHO

workflow? render times? about 1fps for the render to HD on the mac mini outputting tiff files..then I take a firewire drive copy all files and render them into a good online codec like CineForm or SHeerVideo by bitjazz.com

get a really long USB cable for jib shots ;) this mod is really for scripted high-end work IMHO as it is NOT a run-and-gun type setup at all....if you want that just grab the dvx as it is and DON'T plug in a usb cable....the camera is not changed in how it works...minidv still works just fine...you really can't tell the thing has HD unless you look at the USB port on the side...:) it's great this way...does NOTHING bad to your camera as it is from Panasonic..

kinda like shooting with film and a video assist setup...and the files from it are like a raw film scan..you can't just pop a tape in and start editing..you must have a workflow for color work just like film in a way...the tiff files are VERY washed out looking because of the cineon curve on them so you can see all the darks...looks milky as a direct file..you must color grade everything you shoot.

Thanks for the update. I can't wait to see the pic's.

I'm interested in trying out that color grading, and figuring out a workable workflow. Would it be possible to post 24 frames (1 sec) of the original tiff files to be able to see and play with?
