Footage FPS and Framing Differences Problem

I am video editing footage for someone and well, two different cameras were used. One was a DSLR and the other was a regular camcorder with HDV. Well, the HDV footage is all 29fps with a frame size of 1416*1062. The DSLR footage is all 24fps and 1920*1080. What is the best advice to handle this editing process? I would prefer to edit under a 24 project sequence.

That is a odd frame size for a hdv camera: should be 1440x1080 1,33.
HDV usually fits nicely in a 1920x1080 project, dont know for the 24p. That is going to be trial and error.

Chances are the HDV footage is 60i (Premiere should read it as "29.97" upper field first) and 1440x1080.

You should be able to edit in a 24p sequence, but if you want to keep the "live" look to the HDV footage, then you'll have to edit in a 60i sequence.

Thanks for the replies! I really don't want to keep that live look. I'm so upset right now because I told him to shoot 24! Ahhhh lol.

Adding the HDV to a 24p sequence will mess with the cadence. It won't look right. You're best option is to use a 1080i/30 sequence for editing. PP should add the necessary pulldown to covert 24p to 30i.

If you don't want the video look, you may have to give up the HDV footage.

Or you can investigate the dv2Film process, which was originally developed for DV, but might be adapted to HDV.
