Footage Color problem

Hi there,

I have a very interesting problem with my final footage (post-color grading). I grade and everything looks ok on my Mac Cinema Monitor, an external LCD monitor, a normal CRT TV and a Plasma screen, but when I view it on a specific Epson LCD projector the color is muddy, over saturated and yellowish.

The skin tones turn to yellow and red (red = low, yellow = mid, high). Now the first response was that the projector is not accurate (and it isn't), but the problem is that when I view other commercial movies on the projector their color is quite normal.

So, my footage looks ok on everything but this projector, but other footage looks good on this projector, only mine doesn't? I work in PAL DV (from XL2) using FCS2 (color grade in either FCP or Color). When using Color, I work in Apple ProRes 422. The final gets rendered in MPEG2 (for DVD) by Compressor.

There may be something wrong with my image/color. I would be thankful you someone could have a look at the below screen grabs (from MPEG2 DVD clip).

Does anybody have an idea of what may be the matter? I'm quite puzzled by it. I have not watched other DV source on the projector, only Movies which are mostly shot on 35mm and HD. I'm not sure if it is possible that my image/codec may be needy in the range that the projector can show.

hmmm...A buddy of mine had this problem. He had this problem on televisions. First of all, anyone that color corrects, should be color correcting to a boardcast monitor. Period. Do to the fact that you shot on a XL-2 (Cameras aren't that great anymore) and that it was compress on to a DV tape. Well, it's going to be hard to control the colors because of the lack of color space that a DV provides (4-1-1).

If you're only have trouble with the project only, then you should be find. Test it on multiple televisions, projects, computers (MAC's and PC's) and any other outlet of media. Try to narrow your solution. Looking at your screen grabs, It seems thats not the look you're going for, right??? I saw some vignette on one of the screen grabs. Try to stay away from those if you're doing interviews...just a suggestion.

I love color correcting my friend. it's a wonderful thing. Wait till you start messing around with higher res and a bigger color space. You can have more control over any color.

Good Luck
