There are many a thread comparing 35mm adapters. They're endless in fact. I am wondering if there are any true differences in quality and performance between the many different brands of follow focus. Please share stories and opinions. Unless we discover it is just a matter of cost, but I'm thinking we may discover more. So let'er rip.

Patience is a virtue. You only gave people an hour to reply. But it's good that you used the Search function.

Now, about that DV review, keep in mind that they were testing an older version of the IndiFocus. Tim has since came out with a new gearbox that is far better.

I've used both the Chroziel FF ($1500) and now own a Redrock FF ($645). I'd still prefer the Chroziel for it's faster setup time. Performance wise (the amount of play) they're about the same, with the Chroziel having a slight edge.

Someone has a Chrosziel FF for sale for 600 at marketplace as well as a Cavision for 700. Both sound like deals to me.

I have the IndiFocus. It's nice for its price range. I just found out that there is a problem (at least with the one I have) with the follow focus wheel or knob. Whenever I turned, the know would turn instead of the gear turning the lens focus ring. It turns out that the Allen key that use to tighten the knob to the metal does not work properly. Despite how hard I tried to tighten it, the follow focus wheel would not turn the gear but instead turning itself like it was loose. That is a huge problem. I couldn't use my follow focus at all for this reason.

For the money, the indifocus is great.

Now that I own one, I understand why one would spend more on an FF. The indifocus works great for my needs (that being student films and minor commercial work), but if I were doing this professionally I would buy the Chrosziel.

As a sidenote, my indifocus has LESS play than my school's Chrosziel. Actually, my indifocus has NO play with the right lens and if I've taken the time to set it up properly. But the Chrosziel certainly has higher build quality, is much easier to set up, and is has more fluid movement.

For the money, give the indifocus a shot. If it doesn't work for you, then it'll sell pretty quick in the marketplace.
