Re: follow focus

Thanks for the info.

Cavision won't call you? Perhaps, you should call them.

After all, they sell FF units too and wouldn't you like to have your gear available to Cavision customers (i.e. *me*) as well?

Re: follow focus

Ken Ken Ken

And what is the forecasted pricing structure on this little bad boy for the DVX100?

Re: follow focus

I feel there should be standards in the industry (film/video), the follow focus gear teeth data being one of them. I do not know how many decades the standard goes back on follow focus gears, but if Cavision wants to invent a new standard, we will not be supporting it.
And we are trying to bring our "big" knob to market for less than half the competition. Cheers.

I don't follow your focus. ;D

Look, I just want to know if there's anything I can do to make my Cavision FF work with the Century ring... I'll assume there isn't.

*When* would the Century FF unit be available for purchase?

Re: follow focus

Cavision lists three types of follow focus knobs (a,b and c) on their website. I would go with "a" film style, that should work with our .8 MOD gear teeth on our follow focus gear. Call Cavision for details on their products.
I hope to have a follow focus at the IBC show in September.
Cheers

uhhh, yeah... that's the one we're discussing.

My problem is getting that Century gear to match up with the Cavision FF I already own. The gear currently on the Cavision FF will not match the 'pitch' of the Century ring/gear.

Re: follow focus

Yeah, just thought i'd throw in my two cents. A follow focus, while not necessary, adds alot of chi chi factor to your setup, which does impress clients. Also, I have tried to make one, and as I have said before, while there is not alot in there, it has to be precise.

Re: follow focus

Hey terry I had the same problem, and you won't believe what I did. I tore apart an old RC car that I had and found just the right size gear in there, pitch, pressure angle, and all. So go to your basement and start tearing apart those kids toys.

Re: follow focus

Ken, tks for the info. I'm getting the Century focus ring next week, and it's nice to know that a follow focus thingy is going to be available next Fall. The Chrosziel one is fantastic, mechanically, and interfaces perfectly with the Century focus ring, but it's way too expensive !

Re: follow focus

Maybe there is a stereolythography house that does small manufacturing runs of stuff? I'd buy one, but I'm still saving for a DVX. Can't wait for the nanotechnology fabrication home units.

Ummm... OK, *this* Fall, then. The Fall that's coming next. Right after this upcoming Summer which is, like, just around the corner. 2004. Almost upon us. Soon. OK, I'll be quiet now. :-X

Re: follow focus

Whew. I was worrried.

Yes, saying NEXT FALL implies the NEXT ONE not THIS ONE which is not the LAST ONE. Like saying NEXT YEAR...

Maybe Ill shut up now :D

Re: follow focus

:o You drive me crazy with this Fall, or next or what else...
Well John, I hope it's NOT the LAST ONE! ...this one I mean...  ;)

[edit on]
Hey John, I saw (and read) your'e footnote right now.
In my opinion its the best Carpenter-movie and a perfect roll for Kurt! I love that movie!

Re: follow focus

Kurt Russell and John Carpenter... together they created one of the greatest, most underrated films of all time: "Big Trouble In Little China".

Okay, okay, it's not "great", but it sure is fun, and I think Jack Burton is my favorite Kurt Russell character ever...

Re: follow focus

You cannot possibly be telling the truth... are you?

I haven't even seen Buckaroo Banzai, but I guess it's time... but man, Jack Burton, Lo-Pan, Wang -- those were some great characters. If it wasn't for the cheezy over-the-top monsters they put in, that would be a nearly perfect film (for what it is)... ;D
