Follow Focus

I am considering getting a follow focus, but I wouldn't have a dedicated focus puller, it would just be to make it easier for me. I was thinking a follow focus would still make focusing easier (i'm using a 35mm adaptor I made). Is that correct?

And, I don't really want to double post but I have a question about audio. When making a film, what are the best audio settings. Do you record through both channels?

Thanks in advance,

first off, you should try the search function. lots of threads about this stuff already.

for the quick answer, a follow focus will be like the best thing since sliced bread if you have a 35 adapter. i use the indifocus. it's cheap and works well. the redrock one looks nicer but kinda pricey...

as far as audio goes when shooting a feature, it will vary by shot. if you are going for dialogue, then maybe a lav. / boom combo. try to use both of the channels but each captured differently so you have a choice or combo in post. if you have a scene with dialogue and background sound use one channel for dialogue and the other for background, etc. whatever you do, don't use the onboard mics for anything you expect to use. they are worthless.

thanks for replying, I usually do search first, sorry about that. And, as far as audio goes, I will be using an Oktava Mk012 for my primary source, would that on one channel work with a shotgun on the camera?

Thanks for replying so quick,

checkout the fly focus. Its not out quite yet but it looks sweet and once released it is supposed to be the cheapest gear driven follow focus out.

Yeah, I've been watching that for awhile now. But, what is the final price going to be around? most likely more than I can afford at the moment.
