Follow focus with distance transmitter?

Does anyone make a follow focus system where the talent could wear a transmitter that relays the distance to the camera and focuses the lens to the exact distance? I know it wouldn't be inch accurate but would be nice if the talent is always moving around and I think would be a lot better than auto-focus....
 
Some AF systems have focus lock. Sony lens has button to lock object or person, lens will keep focussing on that subject.

Sadly it doesn't work on FS7 but works on FS5, A7 and A6500 cmera's.

I had the 100-400 lens, this lens has that button.
 
True but what if the talent turns around, lighting is poor, or someone walks in front of the camera? I wouldn't rely on this in a major production. A transmitter would work 100% of the time, no matter the situation.
 
I saw their, I guess, working prototype at NAB in '14 and it was really damn impressive. I believe you could set-up offsets to compensate for the placement of the sensor and where you wanted actual focus.
