Follow focus tutorial: for use with adapter

I am trying to do more complex camera work with my hvx and g35. I am about to rent a dolly track. Also I am going to purchase a follow focus. I am told doing dolly pans into talent is very difficult. I am just wondering if any of the people here have attempted complex camera work with adapters.

Also if someone can point me in the direction of learning more of doing the basics of follow focus. I would appreciate it.

The basic operation with an FF is

1) Mark the beginning and end point of the camera move or talent blocking with gaffer tape on the ground.
2) Go to start point, focus and mark that spot on the FF wheel using a fine-tip dry-erase marker.
3) Go to end point 2, focus and mark the FF.
4) Repeat if there are more than 2 points.

This is not something that one person can easily do so a good AC is a must. It's simple to learn but hard to master. Not many people have the patient to go through this every single time and it does takes practice.

Make sure and post some shots when you're done, we have a full scale shoot coming up in Sept with steadicam, jib, dolly etc..., I use the RED ROCK V2 follow focus and i must say, the big wheel is a lot easier and tighter to use than the smaller wheel follow focus. You will need a whip and a speed crank can be helpful as well. Use a wider lens if your talent is going to walk around a lot in the scene, even if you are set up as a med shot. Best to you
Cheers
